Fall is a useful time to reset a vehicle before winter mess becomes part of the daily routine. The aim is not to promise that one detail will handle an entire season. It is to begin with clean surfaces, understand their condition and make ongoing care easier.
Clear the small areas that collect debris
Look for leaves around exterior trim, the base of the windshield and accessible door openings. Remove loose debris gently, following the vehicle manual around drains and seals. Do not force tools into blocked drains. Persistent standing water or a wet cabin needs diagnosis; a detail alone will not repair a leak.
Assess protection after cleaning
A dirty finish can hide staining and make protection difficult to judge. Ask for an inspection after the surface is clean before selecting polishing or a coating. Existing protection may need maintenance rather than replacement. Tell the detailer when and where any earlier coating was applied, and bring its care instructions if available.
Give the cabin a dry start
Empty footwells and clean removable mats according to their material. Return them only when fully dry and correctly secured. Interior glass deserves attention too: haze is easier to notice when low sunlight shines through it. Keep a separate glass towel and avoid spraying cleaner into screens or electrical controls.
